Mayor’s Street Parties GrantNewham residents are invited to submit an expression of interest to host a Mayor’s Street Party on Sunday 20 September 2026.Mayor’s Street Parties are about helping residents bring people together locally, celebrate community pride and build stronger neighbourhood connections across Newham. The programme is designed for resident-led celebrations that are welcoming, inclusive and rooted in the local street or neighbourhood.Residents can apply for up to £650 to help with reasonable costs linked to delivering a free, inclusive and resident-led street celebration.This is an expression of interest process. After all applications have been received, the Council will decide which locations can go ahead and will prioritise an even spread across the borough, so that different neighbourhoods have a fair opportunity to take part.Key datesExpressions of interest close on Monday 31 August 2026 at 11.00pm.Mayor’s Street Parties must take place on Sunday 20 September 2026.The Council will endeavour to contact applicants by Friday 4 September 2026 with a decision.Successful applicants will receive grant funds in the week beginning Monday 7 September 2026.About the grantThe Mayor’s Street Parties Grant supports residents who want to organise a local celebration for neighbours on their street or in their local area.Events should be:- resident-led- free to attend- welcoming and inclusive- open to the local community- based in Newham- safe and considerate of local residentsStreet parties must not start before 12.00pm and must finish by 5.00pm at the latest. This is an expression of interest process. Having received all applications, the Council will decide the exact event locations and will prioritise an even spread across the borough so that different neighbourhoods have a fair opportunity to take part.

Before submitting an expression of interest, residents should speak with neighbours so that people on the street know about the plans, can share views, and have the chance to get involved.

- Chat informally with a few neighbours first to test the idea.

- Let residents on the street know what you are proposing, for example by leaflet, conversation, online/chat group or local meeting.

- Agree the proposed timings for Sunday 20 September 2026. Street Parties must not start before 12:00pm and must conclude by 5:00pm, with hosts able to set up 2 hours before and clear away up to 2 hours after these times.

- Keep a simple record of who has been consulted, any issues raised and how concerns will be managed.

- Check whether the street may be suitable for a temporary closure. Main roads, bus routes and key emergency routes may not be suitable.
