Young K&C is proud to be working in partnership with John Lyon's Charity to deliver the Small Grants Training Microgrant. 

This microgrant has been created using underspend from the 2026 Small Grants programme. We want to make sure this money reaches organisations in the sector and is used in a way that makes a real difference to the people working with children and young people across Kensington and Chelsea. 

We have designed this process to be as simple, fair and proportionate as possible. 

This grant guidance document contains details on the Training Microgrant, including its purpose, eligibility, application process and post-grant requirements. 

 

1. About the grant 

Total grant pot: £14,000 
Maximum grant per organisation: £1,000 

The Training Microgrant supports organisations to invest in their people and strengthen their capacity to deliver excellent services for children and young people. Grants of up to £1,000 are available to fund training, learning and professional development that will directly enhance service delivery. 

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis from August 2026 until the fund is fully allocated. We aim to notify applicants of a decision within 4 – 6 weeks of receiving a completed application. 

What can the grant be used for? 

Funding can be used to cover the cost of training, conferences, seminars or learning resources for staff, trustees and volunteers in the following areas: 

  • Governance and leadership (e.g. financial governance, HR, strategic planning) 

  • Fundraising (e.g. bid writing, social media) 

  • Monitoring and evaluation (e.g. storytelling, data collection, impact reporting) 

  • SEND training (e.g. ASD training, challenging behaviour, supporting parents, or purchase of related resources) 

  • Youth and play practice development 

  • Digital skills and AI training 

  • Essential or required training for core delivery (e.g. safeguarding, first aid, mental health first aid) 

We may also consider other training needs where a satisfactory justification is provided. If you are unsure whether your training is eligible, please contact us before applying. 

2. Eligibility 

To be eligible to apply, organisations must be: 

  • Registered charities or community interest companies (CICs), registered before December 2025 

  • An existing member of Young K&C 

  • Have a minimum of 3 unrelated trustees or directors 

  • Delivering services for children and young people aged 6–19, or up to 25, in RBKC 

In the event that the fund is oversubscribed, priority may be given to organisations that are not currently in receipt of funding from Young K&C. 

All applicants will receive feedback on the outcome of their application. 

3. How to apply 

Organisations are invited to apply from August 2026. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the fund is fully allocated. 

You may only submit 1 application per organisation. 

To apply, please complete the application form 

The application form is short and straightforward. You will be asked to provide information about your organisation, the training you would like to fund, and what difference you expect it to make. 

Applications are reviewed by Young K&C, Young K&C Young Ambassadors and John Lyon's Charity on a rolling 4-weekly basis. We will aim to let you know the outcome of your application within 4-6 weeks of receiving it. 

Due diligence 

We apply the same due diligence standards as the Small Grants programme. 

However, we recognise that smaller or newer organisations may not yet have all policies and procedures fully in place. Where an applicant falls slightly short of any requirements, Young K&C will provide support to make the necessary improvements within 3 months of receiving the grant, rather than this being a barrier to funding.

 

4. After the training 

We want to understand the difference this grant makes to our members and the children and young people they work with. After the training has taken place, we will ask successful applicants to complete a short evaluation form. This will ask you to: 

  • Tell us about the impact of the training on the individual who attended and on your organisation and the children and young people you work with. 

  • Share some proof that the training took place (for example, a certificate, photograph or confirmation from the provider) 

  • Give us feedback on the microgrant process itself, so we can improve it in future 

We have kept this as light touch as possible. The form should take no more than 15–20 minutes to complete. 

Use of AI. 

We understand that applicants may use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to help complete their application. We are not against the use of AI, but please ensure the following: 

  • Specific and accurate information is provided in your application. Generic answers will likely disadvantage the assessment of your application and affect your chance of success. 

  • Your answers capture the unique needs and voice of your organisation and the communities you serve. 

  • You should avoid inputting sensitive and confidential data into AI tools as it may not be protected.
